CASE STUDY
Australian Recreational Fishing Foundation| VIDEOS“LOVE YOUR FISHING” social media videos
Project Description
ARFF launched “Gone Fishing Day” in 2016 to celebrate the role recreational fishing plays in the Australian way of life. In 2017, the goal was to expand upon the enormous success of the first year, encouraging Australians to respect their catch and to sign up to a national register.
OzFish Unlimited partners with fishers and the broader community to invest time and money into the protection and restoration of our waterways, counteracting decades of degradation.
WHAT OZFISH DOES:
Whilst there are over 5 million Aussies who regularly wet a line each year, not all of them can boast an informed, sustainable set of ethics. Those in this less-evolved subset can tend towards a culture of secrecy, defensiveness and abuse of regulations and rights. The Australian Recreational Fishing Foundation(ARFF) was established in 2012 as the peak national body and the key voice for Australia’s recreational fishing community, with a mandate to tackle issues affecting the recreational fishing community and to promote longevity of the sport through education, ongoing research and protection of our environment.
- Educates Australians about recreational fishing.
- Promotes a sustainable Code Of Ethics.
- Represents the recreational fishing community through advocacy to federal government.
- Supports research into all areas affecting recreational fishing.
- Coordinates events that promote and support recreational fishing.
- Provides advice and guidance in the recreational fishing sphere.
MY BRIEF:
ARFF needed two social media videos to broadcast messages to the Gone Fishing Day audience for 2017. These messages were:
- Respect your catch, either eat it (with a humane kill and proper meat care) or catch and release it.
- Sign up to the National Fishing Register.
“We’ve got strength in numbers. We need to demonstrate that.”
My brief required:
- Two short web videos.
- Scriptwriting
- Coordination of shoot
- Filming
- Recording of voice-overs
- Editing
- Graphic design
The project had a limited budget and, sadly, turned out to have a limited time frame. I was ultimately given four days to deliver these videos, once scripts had been approved. I think you will agree, they came up pretty well! Did you notice how much fun I had?

The Mandated Elements
Every project has mandated elements — those bits and pieces that the project just can’t do without. They maintain brand and/or attribute credit.
